Overview:

The QEIIMC Trust Cultural and Heritage Framework acknowledges and honours the cultural significance and historical depth of the campus. This framework is designed to recognise and preserve the stories, heritage, and identity of the land, with a particular respect for its Traditional Custodians, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation.

Objectives

The Framework aims to foster a culturally enriching and inclusive campus environment by focusing on:

  • Cultural Identity and Development: Celebrating the unique cultural heritage of the campus and promoting greater awareness.
  • Place Activation: Enhancing campus spaces through activities and initiatives that connect people to the history and culture of the land.
  • Heritage Conservation: Preserving the historical elements of the campus, including Aboriginal, built, and natural heritage.
  • Community Engagement: Encouraging participation from campus tenants, local councils, and nearby organisations to strengthen the cultural experience on campus.

Implementation

Guided by the principles of the Burra Charter and the Trust's Strategic Plan, the Cultural and Heritage Framework identifies strategies to integrate cultural and heritage initiatives across the campus. Key components include:

  • Developing a central repository for cultural information accessible to all campus users.
  • Creating a cultural and heritage walking trail with interpretive signage.
  • Collaborating with local partners on cultural events and public art installations.

Future Directions

Looking forward, the QEIIMC Trust will continue to explore ways to enhance the campus’s cultural identity through ongoing engagement, inclusive projects, and heritage initiatives. Regular reviews will ensure the framework evolves in alignment with community values and historical significance.
