The upcoming launch of the Purple CAT bus service in February 2022 will link Elizabeth Quay Bus Station with QEIIMC and UWA, improving public transport accessibility and integrating with existing CAT services.
In a significant boost to public transport access to the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre (QEIIMC), the introduction of the new Purple CAT bus service has been announced, set to commence operations on Sunday, 27 February 2022. This initiative reflects a strategic expansion of the existing CAT (Central Area Transit) system, providing a direct, convenient link between Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and key locations including the QEIIMC and the University of Western Australia (UWA).
The Purple CAT route promises to enhance connectivity and accessibility for students, healthcare professionals, patients, and visitors alike. Travelling via Kings Park Road and Thomas Street, the service covers significant stops, including UWA, Perth Children's Hospital, and various strategic points across the campus. This service is aligned with the academic calendar, ensuring that it supports the influx of students and staff at the start of the university year.
In addition to the new Purple CAT, adjustments to the Red and Blue CAT services are planned to come into effect from 5 December 2021. These changes aim to better integrate the CAT services, facilitating smoother travel within the city's central area and providing comprehensive coverage that meets the community's needs.
The introduction of the Purple CAT bus service is a landmark development in public transport for the QEIIMC and surrounding areas. By providing a reliable, efficient, and free mode of transportation, the new service is expected to significantly enhance the campus experience for all users, promoting greater accessibility and reducing the reliance on private vehicles.
