Introduction to the Greenspace Upgrade

The northern end of Perth Children’s Hospital has recently witnessed a remarkable transformation. What was once a simple grassed area has now evolved into an immersive natural environment, designed to be a sanctuary for patients, visitors, and staff of the QEIIMC Campus. This Greenspace upgrade serves as a nearby escape from the often stressful clinical settings, providing a much-needed respite and contributing to the holistic wellbeing of the hospital community.

Connecting Nature and Healing

The newly upgraded Greenspace is strategically designed to act as a natural extension of the award-winning Kids’ Bridge, seamlessly connecting QEIIMC to the majestic Kings Park. This initiative is not just about aesthetic enhancement but is deeply rooted in respecting the Noongar land upon which QEIIMC is situated. By incorporating traditional and contemporary cultural themes along with Dreamtime stories, the Greenspace fosters a rich, experiential space that cultivates wellbeing and promotes healing through nature.

Features of the Greenspace

  • Educational Opportunities: A dedicated natural learning precinct offers educational insights into native flora, fauna, and Noongar culture, enriching visitors' understanding and appreciation of the local ecosystem and indigenous heritage.
  • Nature Play-Space: Designed with children in mind, the nature play-space provides an outlet for fun and normalcy, crucial for the psychological health of young patients coping with illness.
  • Entertainment and Relaxation: The Greenspace includes areas for entertainment and outdoor events, as well as quiet zones for rest and relaxation, catering to the diverse needs of its users.

Inviting the Community

Officially opened on 16 December, the Greenspace invites everyone on the QEIIMC Campus to explore its natural beauty and find a peaceful spot to unwind. This project not only enhances the physical environment of the hospital but also supports the emotional and psychological wellbeing of everyone who visits or works there.
